Charlie Sposato

Charlie Sposato
1947-2007

Charlie Sposato was the founding principal of the MATCH School. He was a wonderful man who shaped the MATCH School, always emphasizing the obligation of staff and teachers to proactively build relationships with students and their parents. Courage, discipline, and perseverance were his core values.

You can read about Charlie's life through the links on the right side of this page, or read below for the views of some former students.

I thinks it's finally hitting me that he has passed and I miss him so much. He was an amazing individual who has helped many. He has to be one of the strongest men in this world and I continue to gain strength from him when I feel like giving up. He's the only man I know that can be be a father, a counselor, a teacher, a motivator and the list goes on. Love ya Mr. Sposato.

He touched us all in a way that we thought no person from our educational career could ever affect us. I personally feel that I wouldn't be in college right now if it wasn't for him. I remember we would be in his office just talking every once in a while and he would tell me that I was lazy, that he saw greatness in me and all the other students at the school, and that if I just applied myself to my classes, anything I ever wanted in life was mine for the taking, and he actually got me to believe that. I feel bad for not keeping in touch with him after I graduated. I really do...cause god knows where I would be without him. I love him so much.

Mr. Sposato was a such a force of love and understanding. He believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself. The example of his love for education helped me to get back into school. He always put so much effort into everything he did. The main thing I learned from his life is that words are cheap. Action is what counts. Your acts, Mr. Sposato, are living and breathing in each person you touched with your infectious love for life. You were key in forming and nurturing the better parts of my character. We'll forever love and remember you.

I've never met anymore more influential and genuine than Mr Sposato...My love and care for him far exceeded what many people would feel towards their principal, but with his charisma, compassion, and genuine love, it's impossible to think of him solely as a principal. Rest in peace Mr. Sposato, I love you and miss you...

When I first entered the school, the very first face I saw before I even met anyone at match as a freshman was Mr. Sposato... All I saw was this guy that was shaking our hand for some odd reason. When it came to my turn to shake his hand, I did not understand the very first question he asked me...It was mad random, "why are you here?" Every day he would constantly ask each individual student why they were there, and we would all give the same answer...Although that answer seemed to have a diffrent meaning to us each day we said it, there was still that vibe of comfort that we felt as we entered the school...we were reassured that there was at least one person who cared about you getting the education you deserved. Mr. Sposato was a man with a heart the same size as his nose, big, no denying that, and I know that one thing that will always play back in my mind when i think of him is, "_______ you ugly dog you."

Mr. Sposato was one of the few sincere people on this earth that really cared for everyone as if they were all his children. He was a great human being who lived to put a smile on everyone's face. You will forever be remembered, thank you for being there for us when we needed you.

Few in life every reach the point of truly allowing God's love to shine through them. Mr. Sposato is definitely one of those. Words cannot express how thankful I am that he showed us the way and that God shared him with us for this brief moment in time. Charlie I love you!!

Mr. Sposato was everything to a lot of people. We were truly blessed to have him in our lives. When everyone else decided we were just going to be "those kids" Charlie made us the "best kids". Charlie, you take a piece of us with you. No one can ever take your place. It was hard to know such a great man was so ill, but even through his weakest moments he still tried to instill in us what he believed most. That courage, discipline and perseverance did make a difference in our lives. I love you with all my heart and I am going to miss you.
