Commencement Speeches
Susan Jackson
Senior Associate Dean
College of Arts and Sciences
Boston University
Good afternoon. To all of you families, teachers, tutors, administrators, trustees, and friends, I bring greetings and warm wishes from your proud partners in MATCH School education, the Boston University College of Arts and Sciences; and, to you graduates, special congratulations from the BU professors whose challenging "regular" college courses you took on, and completed, as high school seniors. By showing you could take it to the next level, handle college coursework, and make the grade alongside older, more experienced classmates at a major university, you proved Mr. Safran and Mr. Marshall right, you made believers of us all, and you gave yourselves one very big reason on this Commencement day not just to look back with pride, but also to look ahead to more college with confidence and renewed commitment. Wherever you're headed in the fall, one worthy goal you may set yourselves is, by virtue of outstanding academic achievement, to make the kind of honor roll we colleges call the "Dean's List." In the meantime, we thought it only fitting to establish a similar list-of Dean's Match Scholars, in order to recognize extra special achievement on the part of Match seniors who complete both of their BU college courses with grades of B or higher. Your class of 2007 boasts three such impressive and inspiring scholars, and it gives me great pleasure now to award their official certificates of achievement, signed this nineteenth day of June 2007 by Dean of Arts and Sciences Jeffrey Henderson.
