Our Core Values

Since its inception, Match Charter Public School has sought to work for social justice. To this end, we are working to reframe our organizational processes and policies to be truly anti-racist. In particular, we are working to advance five specific goals:

  1. Be more honest with ourselves and each other;

  2. Amplify Black voices;

  3. Share power more equally;

  4. Build stronger community partnerships; and

  5. Support anti-bias and culturally relevant teaching for grades preK-12.

In spring 2020, amidst the ongoing realities of systemic racial injustice and a global pandemic, Match embarked on a collaborative journey to establish a new set of core values that define who we are and will drive our work towards these five goals in the next decade and beyond. Below are the new values we will strive to embody as students and staff of Match Charter Public School.

EQUITY

  • You actively listen to others and ask questions until you can see their perspective.

  • You create access for individuals who have the least capital (power, relationship, social status).

  • You, question your privilege, and push others to be anti-racist.

  • You support and empower others to find their voice, and create the space for them to be heard.

FREEDOM

  • You can be your authentic self without limiting the ability of others to do the same.

  • You can speak your truth and be heard.

  • You are seen, valued, celebrated, affirmed, and appreciated and do the same for others.

  • You protect all students, families, and staff and are protected by others.

TEAMWORK

  • You listen with the intent to hear, not just respond.

  • You leverage your teammates strengths and fill in the spaces where they need assistance.

  • You and everyone on the team is working towards achieving the same goals.

  • You communicate and advocate for your needs, listen to others, and work to come to a common ground.

INNOVATION

  • You are relentless in sharing ideas and seeking feedback from others even when confronted with challenges.

  • You try out new things knowing some will fail and embracing failure as part of learning.

  • You openly share your successes and failures with team members.

  • You challenge prevailing assumptions, including your own, to create systems that liberate our students.

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • You take actions that will increase achievement for all students and center their needs in your choices.

  • You seek understanding of your responsibilities and are dependable in carrying them out collaboratively.

  • You speak up when you see actions taken that will reduce student outcomes or cause harm to our community.

  • You empower students, families, and staff with clarity about our shared expectations.
