Brenellys Acevedo I Front Desk Manager
MELISSA ADRIEN I NURSE
Mrs. Adrien was born in Boston and raised in the suburbs outside of Boston. She received her bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree from MCPHS University in Boston MA. She has experience in family medicine, pediatric/adolescent health, and mental health. In her free time she loves to listen to music, go walking, and spend time with her family.
Dominique Bastien | Social Worker
Ms. Bastien grew up in Somerville, Massachusetts and graduated from Regis College with a BA in Psychology in 2009. She then went on to receive her Masters in Social Work in 2013 from Wheelock College. While in her graduate program, Ms. Bastien’s passion for working with children and young adults grew. Prior to coming to Match, she worked as a school-based clinician for a non-profit organization, and this is how she became involved with Match. Ms. Bastien also worked as a mobile crisis clinician, which made her desire to work with children with social and emotional disabilities in the school system flourish. She is very excited to be a part of Match and is looking forward to working with the students, families, and staff in the Match community.
Jillian Boucher | ATHLETICS & Match Corps Director
Ms. Boucher is originally from East Providence, RI. She graduated from Wheaton College in 2011 with a degree in mathematics, and earned her M.S.Ed in urban education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. Ms. Boucher spent two years teaching high school math in Camden, New Jersey as a Teach for America corps member, and is thrilled to be back living in New England, closer to her friends and family! When Ms. Boucher isn't solving math problems, she loves to play basketball and volleyball, read, and bake.
dacie BOyce | Special Education teacher
Ms. Boyce was born in Boston, Massachusetts and completed her elementary and middle school years in the BPS system. She attended Wellesley College for her Bachelor's degree in History. She taught 5th grade Special Education in Chelsea, MA as her Teach for America Placement. She earned her Master's Degree from Boston University in Teaching and Curriculum.
Jawad Brown I 8th grade Math Teacher
Mr. Brown has been working in urban education for 10 years. He began his career as a Student Teacher at Belle Vue Middle School, located in Tallahassee, Florida in 2008. He went on to become an Intern Teacher at The Epiphany School, an independent charter school located in Dorchester. He then spent 6 years at Boston Collegiate Charter School as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher, basketball coach and enrichment advisor. He has also worked for Charles Sposato Graduate School of Education as Director of Math Training, Classroom Culture and Director of the Residents of Color Mentoring Program. Mr. Brown holds a B.A. in Secondary Education in Mathematics from Florida A&M University and a Master of Science degree in Education from Simmons College.
Brenna Carlson I Associate Teacher
Ms. Carlson is from Ames, Iowa (which is the state with corn, not potatoes). She went to the University of Notre Dame. She majored in History and Japanese and spent 7 months studying abroad in Japan. Ms. Carlson knew that she wanted to teach in a public school classroom while she was teaching English in Japan. She had great experiences with her students and wanted to become a better teacher when she came home to the states. She is looking forward to helping students learn how exciting history is. Ms. Carlson loves cooking, reading, and hanging out with her cat. She also likes to workout and can be found doing yoga or push-ups at the gym (depending on the day).
siri Carr | 8th Grade Ela Teacher
Ms. Carr is originally from Connecticut and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University where she studied literature and Spanish. She spent the last year as an English tutor in Match Corps XII at Match Middle and is completing her masters degree through the Charles Sposato Graduate School of Education. She is super excited to continue working with these awesome students as one of the 8th grade English teachers!
Nicholas cHURCHILL | Composition Coach/RTI Coordinator and Composition Currculum director
Mr. Churchill is excited to join the Match Middle School team as Director of Writing and Director of Special Education. He began his career in education through TFA as an English and Reading teacher on the Navajo Nation in rural New Mexico. After that, he served as a founding ELA teacher at UP Academy Boston, as an Academic Dean at Achievement First in New Haven, and most recently as the ELA director of Match's Teacher Launch Project. Mr. Churchill earned a B.A. from UCLA and an Ed. M. from Harvard. He is a proud Chicagoan and watches the Bulls religiously in his free time.
BEATRICE COOK | 6TH GRADE SCIENCE TEACHER
Ms. Cook is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from the University of Michigan. Ms. Cook started working at Match Middle School last year as an English Tutor, and she is continuing this year as the 6th grade science teacher. Ms. Cook is currently working on completing her masters through the Charles Sposato Graduate School of Education. In her free time, Ms. Cook enjoys spending time outdoors and cheering for her favorite Cleveland sports teams. She is extremely excited to work with the awesome 6th graders and have a great year of science!
Joanna Davis | ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Ms. Davis was born and raised in Los Angeles CA. She graduated from Tufts University in 2008 with a B.A. in English. She began her time at Match Middle School as a member of Match Corps 5 and is a graduate of the Match Teacher Residency Program.
Tommy Day | Director of Operations
Mr. Day grew up in Needham, Massachusetts and graduated from Williams College with a BA in Economics in 2007. After college, he worked as a management consultant and moved to Boston proper, where he has lived the majority of his time since. He eventually became interested in education after struggling to help a loved one find high quality high school options in his adopted Dorchester neighborhood. While completing his MBA from the Yale School of Management he made a deliberate career shift to work in education and is very excited to be able to serve students and families in Boston with Match.
VALLERIE DEPINA | Student support coordinator
Ms. DePina grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from Amherst College with a BA in Psychology and Spanish in 2011. She then went on to receive her Masters in Social Work at Boston College. While earning her master's degree, Ms. DePina gained clinical experience providing case management and crisis intervention to homeless youth in the city of Boston, and then moved on to work with domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in a hospital setting, providing psychoeducation, emotional support and counseling services. Following graduate school, she worked as a school-based clinician for a non-profit organization for two years. Ms. DePina has become especially passionate about working with youths and looks forward to bringing this passion to Match. She also enjoys learning about new cultures as well as utilizing her fluency in Spanish and Cape Verdean Creole in her work.
shelby derissaint I counselor
Ms. Derissaint graduated from Simmons College with a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work. She has many years of experience and enjoys working with students of all age levels. She has a deep passion for doing community service work both locally and internationally.
Alana DeTone I Associate Teacher
Ms. DeTone grew up in Pelham, NY. She studied Chemistry at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. She also earned her master’s degree in Chemistry at Tufts University. She became a teacher because she loves to share her excitement for science with others, and loves being in an environment where she can constantly learn new things. She is looking forward to being part of a close knit community of people who want to help students achieve their dreams. In her free time, she enjoys learning and doing new arts and crafts. She also enjoys drawing and illustrating, both with traditional media such as paint, pencil, ink, as well as with digital media.
Melissa Duong I Inclusion Aide
Ms. Duong was born and raised in Central Illinois.She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.A. in Political Science and Psychology and a B.S. in Agriculture and Consumer Economic. She has always personally loved school and believes that knowledge is power because it opens so many other doors of opportunities. She is looking forward to getting to know the students and building meaningful relationships. She loves to spend time with friends and family, travel, read, trying new restaurants, and exploring new places.
SARAH ELENTUKH | 7TH GRADE ELA TEACHER
Born and raised in Boston, MA, Ms. Elentukh earned her undergraduate degree from Boston University and her graduate degree from Simmons College. She began her teaching career in Chelsea, MA in 2010 and has since worked in Brookline, Newton, and Boston schools. In her free time, Ms. Elentukh directs a professional dance company and coaches dance teams in the area. What excites her most about teaching middle school is helping her students realize their own potential for greatness and encouraging them to reach for their goals and dreams.
Meghann Estrada I 7th Grade Composition Teacher
Ms. Estrada was born in Chicago but raised in Indianapolis, IN. She has a BA in Journalism and African American and African Diaspora Studies from Indiana University. Ms. Estrada became an educator because she is passionate about empowering students. She truly believes that knowledge is power and loves helping young people exceed their potential. She is excited to be a part of the Match Middle School community. Ms. Estrada is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who taught English at a high school in a rural village in Tanzania, Africa, from 2015-2017. Prior to Peace Corps, she worked as a Building Substitute at Prospect Hill Academy Charter School. Ms. Estrada enjoys listening to music, dancing, reading, writing, working out, and traveling.
TYLER FABBRI | 6TH GRADE Ela TEACHER
Mr. Fabbri is originally from the quaint town of Chesterton, Indiana. He graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a degree in English. After graduating, he honed his teaching and corny joke making skills in Memphis, where he taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English and science for two years as a Teach for America corps member. Mr. Fabbri is already enjoying the New England life and in his free time likes to read, cook elaborate meals, and invest way too much energy watching his favorite sports teams. He is very excited to bring his love for reading and composition to the wonderful 6th graders at Match
Lucille Germain I 8th Grade English Teacher
Ms. Germain is a Boston native. She graduated from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts with a double major in English and Secondary Education. She is excited to continue her work with the students and staff at Match.
JESSICA GOLDBERG | English learner Specialist
Ms. Goldberg was born and raised in Boston. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education Studies from Skidmore College. She also holds a Master’s degree in Education from Lesley University’s reading specialist program. Ms. Goldberg taught 6th grade English at Roxbury Prep Charter School for six years. In her spare time, she loves to read, cook, and spend time with friends and family. She is excited to join the Match community.
Cherisse Hagood | Operations Manager
Ms. Hagood lived in Boston all her life until she traveled to Rollins College in Florida where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and studied dance. Immediately after graduating, she returned home to serve as a March Corps tutor. In her first year at Match, she fell in love the students and the school environment, so she was thrilled to come on board as the Front Office Manager last year so she can continue to develop wonderful relationships with the Match community. Ms. Hagood enjoys dancing, trying to sing, going for walks, and reading. She looks forward to starting a new year of meeting new students, families, and staff and also welcoming back the wonderful people she’s already met.
Carissa Hatcher I Physical Education Teacher
Ms. Hatcher grew up in Mount Vernon, Ohio. She attended Bridgewater State University where she earned her degree in Physical Education. She has always used her ability to play sports to build relationships with adults and children. Before coming to Match, she was the Physical Education teacher at the Compass School. She built their physical education and health program, as well as their summer outdoor education program. She is most excited about getting to know the entire Match community, from staff to students. She loves sports, being outdoors and being with friends and family.
Sarah Haughney I Special Education Teacher
Ms. Haughney grew up in Ridgefield, CT and lived there all her life. She attended Providence College in Rhode Island and graduated in 2008 with a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. Ms. Haughney has always loved teaching and is excited to be joining the Match team! She is looking forward to learning from her new colleagues and students. Prior to Match, she taught at the New England Center for Children for 5 years, working with children with autism. She learned so much in her time at NECC and is looking forward to applying those skills at Match. In her free time, Ms. Haughney enjoys cooking and traveling. She's been to 13 countries so far and hopes to visit as many more as she can.
Susan Hennessy I Inclusion Aide
ANGELIQUE HUSBANDS | SPECIAL education teacher
Ms. Husbands is from the Caribbean, specifically the beautiful islands of Barbados and Grenada. She grew up in the island of Barbados. During her high school career, she immigrated to the U.S and completed her studies at the John D.O'bryant School of Mathematics and Science. She then went on to attend American International College where she received both her bachelor’s and master’s degree.
Lisa Katerman | Counselor
Originally from Pennsylvania, Ms. Katerman went to college in North Carolina, spent a year teaching in Costa Rica, and spent 5 years in Washington, D.C. working at a non-profit and getting her Masters in Social Work. She moved to Boston two years ago for a post-MSW fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, and she is still working for them as a school social worker in their Children's Hospital Neighborhood Partnership program. Ms. Katerman does a variety of things related to mental health and social-emotional well-being, including individual and group therapy, classroom interventions, crisis work, and staff trainings. She is thrilled to work with Match students, families, and staff!
Kimberly Lake I Director of Special Education
Ms. Lake grew up in North Providence, RI. She graduated from St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont with a master's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, and earned her M.Ed from Columbia University in New York City. Ms. Lake has been working in the field of education for 15 years. She taught for 9 years before moving into the role of special education administrator which she has held for the past six years. In her free time, Ms. Lake enjoys spending time at the beach, reading and playing board games with family and friends.
Shawn Lane I Special Education Teacher
Mr. Lane was born in Massachusetts. He has a Master's degree in Special Education from Brooklyn College. He loves making strong connections and helping kids see their potential.
Kristen McCain I Inclusion Aide
Ms. McCain is originally from Brookline, Massachusetts. She moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she attended Wake Forest University and graduated with a BA in Psychology and Sociology. She tutored 3rd-5th graders in an after school program throughout her four years at WFU, which jumpstarted her passion for education and working with kids. She is a Match Corps Alumni that tutored 5th grade math. She is very excited to continue supporting scholars as an inclusion aide. Ms. McCain enjoys playing volleyball, cooking, traveling, and cheering on the Red Sox.
Alexandria Medellin I 7th Grade Science Teacher
Ms. Medellin was born and raised in the wonderful city of San Antonio, Texas. She attended Hamilton College where she majored in Women's and Gender Studies with a focus on cultural competence in teaching. She decided to become a teacher after realizing the profound influence that quality education had on the trajectory of her life. She is excited to be surrounded by a team working toward helping kids realize their fullest potentials. Prior to Match, she worked on operations and logistics for a teacher preparation program in Houston, TX. In her free time, she enjoys painting, reading legislation and playing with her dogs.
Vanessa Medor I 6th Grade Math Teacher
Ms. Medor was born and raised in Boston and has spent the majority of her life here. She attended Boston College, where she studied both Sociology and Psychology. She became an educator out of passion and from a reflection on the importance and significance of education in her life. Ms. Medor is excited to work at Match because she will be working alongside teachers and administrators who are also fired up by this same passion. But most importantly, she is excited to teach and learn from students who attend school within the same school system that she did. In her free time, Ms. Medor loves to dance! She is also a "foodie" and has been bitten by the travel bug, so she loves opportunities that combine experiences of culture and food.
David Mendez I ESL Teacher
Mr. Mendez grew up in Northern California. Home of the Golden State Warriors. He graduated from Dominican University of California with a degree in Liberal Studies/Teacher preparation while playing NCAA Division II soccer. Upon graduation, Mr. Mendez joined Teach For America and began his adventure on the East Coast. He taught 5th grade Bilingual classes in Passaic, NJ, while simultaneously earning his M.A.T in Secondary English from Relay Graduate School of Education. In his free time, he enjoys watching the Golden State Warriors, playing soccer, hiking and travelling with his wife.
JARED MOORE I 8TH GRADE HISTORY TEACHER
Mr. Moore was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, where he attended college at Drury University. While at Drury he studied English and Religion. He is currently enrolled in the Charles Sposato Graduate School of Education and hopes to obtain his masters degree next summer. In his spare time, he enjoys playing and watching soccer, basketball, and football. He is also an avid runner who competes in marathons and is dabbling in ultra-running. What excites him most about teaching history is the opportunity to connect students to the world and empower them to make changes in it.
Jaumal Moore I Assistant Dean of Students
Mr. Moore is a Boston native. He graduated from English High School in Jamaica Plain. Mr. Moore moved on to study Early Childhood education at Massbay Community College. He has worked in special education for over 10 years. Mr. Moore previously worked at a collaborative school where he was in charge of behavior management and transitional support. Mr. Moore is passionate about helping people be their best selves. He supports athletes with intellectual impairments as they prepare for the Special Olympics. Mr. Moore enjoys playing sports and meeting new people.
Carmen Morales I 7th Grade Math Teacher
Ms. Morales was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She attended Boston College where she studied Sociology. She became interested in teaching after graduating from high school. She likes to read and try new foods on her free time. She is a Teach for America Corps Member.
JACKIE MULVEHILL I 6TH GRADE HISTORY TEACHER
Ms. Mulvehill was born in Needham, MA and attended The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA with a B.A. in political science and concentration in Latin American studies. She went on to teach 9th grade world history as a TFA corp member in Washington, DC while getting her Masters of Education from American University. She has been coaching and managing first and second year teaching fellows with a Boston-based non-profit for the past four years in three different Boston Public Schools and is excited to get back into the classroom! Ms. Mulvehill is also a proud band-wagon Boston sports fan!
DANA O'NEAL I PRINCIPAL
Ms. O'Neal was born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She received a B.S. in Human Development and Psychological Services from Northwestern University. After graduating she moved to Boston to begin her career in education as a Match Corps tutor and a member of the Match Teacher Residency. She taught 7th grade math at Roxbury Prep for several years and is excited to be back at Match.
FELICIA PASLEY I Director of student support
Ms. Pasley is originally from the Dorchester-lower Mills area of Boston. She lived in various places while serving as a satellite communications engineer in the United States Marine Corps. After her time in the Marine Corps, she returned to Boston and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Behavior at Simmons College. Before joining the Match community, Ms. Pasley coordinated the behavior department at a collaborative school in the South Shore. In her free time Ms. Pasley enjoys cooking, time on the beach and watching any of the New England sports teams play.
Mario Rosales | Special Education TEACHER
Mr. Rosales is originally from Virginia Beach, VA and graduated from George Mason University with a degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolutions. He landed here in Boston through serving a year with City Year and since then has no plans on leaving the city. He is excited for this new opportunity to educate, grow, and learn.
Emmanuel Santana I Dean of Students
Mr. Santana was born and raised in Boston. He attended Denison University in Ohio for 4 years. While in College, he worked as a camp counselor and activity director at the Crossraods site Camp Mitton. After graduating with a degree in Education, he started off his career at Match as a part of the Match Corps 12 and is now a Dean of Students.
DANA SIEGEL I SPEECH PATHOLOGIST
Ms. Siegel received her B.A. in Psychology from Franklin and Marshall College and M.S. in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from New York University. Prior to working for Match, Ms. Siegel worked with pediatrics in multiple charter schools, preschools, homes, and clinical/rehabilitative settings all over New York City. Ms. Siegel has experience evaluating and treating children with delays or disorders in the following areas: expressive and receptive language, auditory processing, articulation and phonology, fluency, social-pragmatic language, voice/resonance, and literacy development.
Emma Simon | 6th Grade Ela Teacher
Ms. Simon first came to Match Middle School as a Match Corps Tutor and Teacher Resident. Ms. Simon grew up on the south shore of Long Island, NY or, as she puts it, 40 minutes from the city, 15 minutes from the beach. She earned her bachelor's degree in Creative Writing and Theatre Arts from SUNY New Paltz in 2009, and her Master's in English Education from The City College of New York in 2011. After that, she worked for several years in the New York City public schools before finally making the move up to Boston. Ms. Simon is thrilled to work with sixth graders and welcomes questions regarding student progress as well as any book/Netflix recommendations.
CATHERINE STEIN I 8TH GRADE SCIENCE TEACHER
Ms. Stein was born in Boston and raised in the suburbs outside of New York City. She received her bachelor's degree from Boston University and her master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Ms. Stein previously worked as an MCAS tutor for MATCH High School and a science coach for the MATCH Teacher Residency. In her spare time, Ms. Stein loves to cook, ski, and read mystery novels.
Justine Sullivan I 6th Grade Math Teacher & Teacher Coach
Ms. Sullivan is originally from Norwell, MA. She graduated from Roger Williams University with a degree in Elementary Education and earned her M. Ed in School Leadership from Arizona State University. Ms. Sullivan spent the past four years living in Phoenix, Arizona after accepting a position in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. She spent her year of service as a Physical Education teacher for grades K-8 at an urban school located in downtown Phoenix. After her year of service, Ms. Sullivan continued at this same school as a middle school math and science teacher. Ms. Sullivan is excited to be back in her home state where she is enthusiastic to start teaching at Match. In her free time, Ms. Sullivan enjoys hiking, camping, and playing sports of all kinds.
Robyn Tortorelli I 8th grade math teacher
Ms. Tortorelli grew up in New York City and went to Stuyvesant High School. She graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Economics and Psychology. After a successful business career, Ms. Tortorelli joined Match to pursue her true passion: teaching. She is currently working towards her Master’s degree at the Charles Sposato Graduate School of Education. She is excited to share her passion for mathematics and help students understand how math plays a role in their everyday lives. Prior to Match, Ms. Tortorelli worked for American Express. She worked in several divisions over 10 years, including finance, marketing, and travel services. When she is not working, Ms. Tortorelli enjoys hiking, kayaking, going to concerts, and traveling the world (37 countries and counting).
Michael Vogt I 7th Grade Math Teacher
Mr. Vogt is from Millis, Massachusetts and has been living in the Berkshires for the last 7 years. He studied Mathematics and Chemistry at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Growing up, he has always helped his friends with mathematics and he wants to continue to help others learn the beauty of the subject.. He looking forward to working at a brand new school and meeting the kids! Prior to Match, he taught at Berkshire Arts Technology Charter School as a 7th grade and high school math teacher. He also coached Boys Soccer and Co-Ed Ultimate Frisbee Team. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar, mandolin and ukulele. He also loves Football Sundays and hanging out with his dog!
William Walthall IV I 7th Grade History Teacher
Mr. Walthall grew up in Westborough, MA and attended Trinity College where he majored in Political Science. He started teaching right out of college after realizing that making an impact in the lives of kids was better than anything a standard desk job could offer. He taught two years of fifth and sixth grade ELA at KIPP Memphis Preparatory Middle as a Teach for America Corps member in Memphis, TN. In 2016, he moved back to his home state where he taught at Brooke East Boston for a year. He’s excited to join the talented Match Middle School team, work with passionate students, and teach American History. In his free time, Mr. Walthall is an avid New England sports fan who loves reading, playing and listening to music, and eating delicious food.
